The following is a clarification about the Firefox Wonder Edition package released yesterday on this Website. It has been download more than 4,000 times in a day, so i think that an explanation is deserved.
What contains the Firefox Wonder Edition package ?
This Firefox version contains:
- a portable Firefox version that doesn't waste so much system memory as the newer Firefox versions, starts in few seconds and load webpages really fast. After some tests i found out that the 1.5.0.7 version is fast, stable and secure enough if bundled with some security oriented add-ons like "Noscript".
- some extensions that make Firefox faster and more secure like Flashblock, Fasterfox, Noscript
- the Tabmix add-on that makes Firefox 1.5 look like the 2.0 version
- an extension called Firesomething to give Firefox a custom Titlebar
- an executable that loads Firefox with higher CPU privileges (this is why you'll find two different FirefoxWonderEdition.exe)
Why my antivirus detects a possible trojan ?
Don't worry, it's just a false positive. In the self extracting archive you've downloaded, there are two different FirefoxWonderEdition.exe executable files. When you run the first FirefoxWonderEdition.exe file, it will start the the second FirefoxWonderEdition executable trying to set the system priority for this process to an higher level. This kind of activity may be seen as a threat from an antivirus but there isn't any danger for your system.
If it makes you feel more safe you can delete the first .exe file and do its task manually: start Firefox, open task manager and change Firefox priority to high with a right click on FirefoxWonderEdition.exe.
You can obtain the same effect if You can create a .bat or .cmd file containing this command:
start /high FWE/FirefoxWonderEdition.exe
