I found it funny that nobody decided to go on a rant about how pot is bad and will ruin your life.

But I do find it irritating to find people on the internet saying crap like "money cant grow on tree's but there high they wount care."(actual quote) The decline of grammar and proper spelling is at hand!

dope does nothing but stimulate the brain and even if it was to lower ur iq its just a number its not like ppl know thier iq and it in no way will affect or ruin ur iq not like in a job interview they ask for iq and u find out urs droped so no hire and on the note of email of coarse its gonna slow down the mind ur thinking in ur head the words to communicate or type.. dope is only frowed apon becasue of studies doen in the 70s so the us government could start a war on drug and look where we are now. no where… weed is illegal but not booze and booze leads to addiction and liver damage and for soem reason alchol is widely avaliable across the world go figure…

Marijuana is not a dangerous drug. I use it to pass time, relax, space out, feel good, or to get just plain stoned! Marijuana is only illegal because it got over classified as a drug during the narcotic scare in the 1900s. It is definately better to have smoken pot then to be one of those politicians that are sitting in the corner saying "Lets keep it illegal because I never tried it."

the reason pot isnt leagle is cause it would hurt the lumber, fabrics and drug industry. it can be used for alot more then just smoking. reefer is a renewable source of paper and can be made into clothing is and a natural pain killer. ther are also other uses for the plant such as using it for food and extracting oils from it for use in lubercations and maybe cookin also. the one main reason it is illeagle is cause of the goverments that get funding from lumber and general textile industries. its kinda like the big oil companys that put down fuel economy for over 50 years and are still not willing to loose thier finacial empires by truely promoting alternative energy sources. I dont know but these are just a few of my thoughts and dont forget the big #1 thing any one can grow pot even a complete idiot with a IQ of 50. how is the gov. going to tax something that any body can produce in thier home with some dirt water and a seed?

I smoked pot moderately in high school (twice or thrice a week) and my grades were really good. I smoked heavily (a gram a day) in the first and second years of my undergrad and my grades dropped. I then turned to smoking once every two weeks or so in my third and fourth years and my grades went back up to where they were in high school. I barely smoked in grad school and my grades were good too. I guess my point must then be that as long as you don't go overboard you can keep your brain running at a reasonably high level.

I think that marijuana definitely affects people differently. Users tend to have varying tolerance levels, and I know from experience that some of my friends were less capable of doing work than others while stoned. I had a girlfriend who smoked and would do university assignments, whereas I wouldn't be able to focus at all after smoking. Guess that's why I stopped using habitually unlike her :).

raspliffarian said it so well, haha. I think marijuana has the energy to open the mind of the numb citizen. I think that experience of contiosness can make people reflect enouph to seek better for themselves. Except when its associated with negetive things like it is. If we saw weed for the harmless, natural, and bonding effects it produces, we would understand the need to clean our world and care about eachother. Motevate us to live in peace, without greed and manipulation. We all know you can spot manipulation a mile away when your hi. Power to the People. vote Mike Gravel 08 as well, we don't want another Bush.

first off…I concur. I smoke pot on a regular basis and my brain functions much better than most people I know. As far as the dumbing down of the population, I belive it. Look at all these jagoffs with the myspace, and the AOLs dot com, they are zombies. Everyone I know who is younger than I are vastly less intelligent than the people im aware of who are older. Technology brings about laziness there is too much going on at once. Marijuana mellows you out and enables you to focus on things better =p

Wow, computers dumb down the population? I would have never know this if it wasn't for computers. I think they may make some people a little lazy, though. I bet the government won't make e-mail illegal like they did pot. It would make it harder for them to infringe on people's privacy. I wonder what amount of pot that the control group smoked was. They should compare IQ loss from Marijuana to IQ loss from drinking and see what the results are. I bet alcohol drops it a lot more. I know I was smarter in school before I started getting drunk. I smoked pot in high school and I was always an A student. The end.

MJ does not cause any permanent IQ loss. Temporarily while using, for sure.

Actually, there is one study that has shown that students who MODERATELY use pot perform consistently better in college. Another study compared heavy users vs. moderate users vs. non-users. The heavy users showed a drop in IQ scores while the moderate users showed a GAIN in IQ scores. Not while actually high, mind you, but later.

If you're heavily into something, anything, drugs or not, you're not keeping your brain healthy and active for other tasks.

Marijuana is proven within multiple studies to drop an average adults I.Q. points by 8 points maximum. These I.Q. points return after discontinued use.

This maximum is also only hit if the smoker is smoking heavily.

This is why some people may seem to be a burnout. This stops after discontinuing use of cannabis like I stated already.

If someone's character or persona are affected by the cannabinoids, it is more than likely the person already had health issues which include mental problems or instability problems to be exact. Any drug would most likely cause more problems when you are not healthy to begin with. This is especially true with many legal drugs including alcohol. The amount of brain, and liver damage out weighs the 8 I.Q. points that return. Advil and Tylenol alone cause WAY more damage when used excessively. You can cause internal bleeding by simply taking pain killers and drinking a bit too much wine at dinner.

Just know your own limits and be careful of most legal intoxicants because most of them are lethal in small amounts.

Read the Lancet's report on the social effects of illegal and legal substances.

Then go find some Independant literature on cannabis and make up you're own mind. It's reasons for being made illegal are archaic and need reform across the world.

Not that anyone can focus on that task for long enough!
